Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn visited Beijing, China, on November 3–4 to attend the 11th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. According to a statement issued by Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry on November 5, the meeting was co-chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak.
Participants reviewed progress in political and security, economic, and social and cultural cooperation. They exchanged views on regional resilience, shared prosperity and sustainable development, and looked ahead to the fifth Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting, to be held in China in late December.
Prak Sokhonn said Cambodia firmly supports Mekong-Lancang Cooperation and values mutual respect, mutual benefit and trust. He specifically thanked China for supporting 113 projects in Cambodia through the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund, helping economic development and improving people’s livelihoods.
Looking ahead to Mekong-Lancang Cooperation 2.0, Prak Sokhonn proposed five priorities: maintaining regional peace and stability, strengthening economic integration and connectivity, addressing climate change, jointly combating transnational crime, and responding to emerging security threats.
During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn also held discussions over tea with Wang Yi and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak on regional stability and improving Cambodia–Thailand relations. He held separate meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung to discuss deeper bilateral cooperation and regional affairs.
