Cambodian media reported that on the afternoon of 5 October 2025 the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training spokesperson Sun Mesa rejected some online accounts of the TARAL garment-factory protest as serious distortions. He accused overseas opposition groups of spreading false arrest claims with political motives to inflame division and disrupt labour relations and stability.
He said the allegations were unverified and contrary to the facts, seeking to mislead the public and encourage unlawful worker action. He argued that the claimed solidarity was intended to create division and unrest rather than protect workers or national interests.
TARAL is in Kong Pisei district, Kampong Speu province. The source says workers protested on 2 October and the labour ministry and local authorities mediated. After several rounds of talks, workers and management reached agreement on 4 October, and all workers returned. The spokesperson described the mediation as lawful, efficient and orderly.
He also accused overseas opposition groups of repeatedly exploiting social incidents for political gain and undermining confidence in government rather than protecting workers’ rights or national development. The ministry urged the public to assess online information rationally and avoid spreading rumours.
