Cambodia was ranked the world’s fifth friendliest country in Condé Nast Traveller’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards, scoring 97.33 points, ahead of Vietnam (sixth, 97.27) and Thailand (eighth, 96.36).

The list, voted on by travellers around the world, shows that Cambodia’s hospitality and sincere friendliness have won the affection of visitors from many countries.

Condé Nast Traveller wrote:

“As a predominantly Theravada Buddhist country, Cambodia’s culture centres on ‘metta’—unconditional loving-kindness towards all beings. Cambodians therefore welcome every visitor with warmth and goodwill, wherever they come from.”

The magazine also said Cambodia offers not only the lively capital Phnom Penh and magnificent Angkor Wat, but also a rich cultural heritage in its countryside, from silk-weaving workshops to traditional farms, where visitors encounter simple, sincere smiles.

Kenya topped this year’s list with 98.46 points, followed by Barbados (98.18) and Mexico (98.00) in second and third place.
