Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all ministries and institutions to treat disaster management as a core responsibility and strengthen the personnel and resources needed for response. National Disaster Management Day on 13 October was held under the theme of acting every day for disaster resilience today. In a congratulatory message, he called for a stronger culture of sharing knowledge and experience on risk reduction and disaster awareness.
He issued seven further calls: 1. Promote the sharing of knowledge and experience on risk reduction and disaster awareness. 2. All ministries and institutions should make disaster management a core responsibility, strengthen response personnel and resources, and contribute effectively to the National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024–2028 and the national Early Warnings for All roadmap. 3. The National Committee for Disaster Management should strengthen interministerial systems and develop sectoral disaster-management and risk-reduction capacity. 4. The capital and provinces should improve flood and drought management, alongside local water-management infrastructure, to increase resilience to climate change and other hazards. 5. The defence ministry should continue working with the disaster-management committee to improve disaster search-and-rescue teams' technical skills and capacity. 6. Strengthen public education, outreach and awareness of disaster risks among the public and relevant stakeholders, ensuring preparedness. 7. Support economic growth and resilience through smart investment in housing, communities and livelihoods.
