Indonesian law enforcement agencies recently carried out operations involving cross-border fraud and a major financial case, arresting 28 Chinese nationals, including a fugitive wanted by Chinese police in a financial case.
At a November 18 press conference in Jakarta, Indonesian immigration intelligence officials said a 58-year-old Chinese man had been arrested on Batam island. A former president and director of a Chinese property company, he was wanted by Chinese authorities over a corporate loan default involving about 980 million yuan. The operation followed a formal request from the Chinese embassy in Jakarta.
Separately, Indonesian police arrested 27 suspects in an upscale residential area of West Java for allegedly impersonating Chinese public security officers to commit fraud. They allegedly targeted Chinese citizens with telecommunications scams using fake police premises and imitation banners. The suspects have been handed over to immigration authorities pending repatriation to China.
