France expressed deep concern about the escalation of confrontation between Cambodia and Thailand. The report placed this in the context of what it described as fierce Thai military attacks on Cambodia since December 7.
France also supported Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call for an immediate ceasefire and urged both sides to stop fighting immediately and return to dialogue in accordance with the provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Declaration, towards a peaceful resolution of the dispute between the two countries.
According to Cambodia’s information minister, as of December 15 civilian deaths from what was described as Thai armed aggression had risen to 12, with 74 people injured and more than 400,000 displaced.
