US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, urging Thailand to resume implementing the Kuala Lumpur peace accord amid concern over continuing violence along Cambodia’s border, according to the US State Department on December 19, 2025.
Rubio underscored US concern about the ongoing violence along Cambodia’s border and stressed the urgent need to de-escalate tensions.
The US secretary of state also urged Sihasak to take concrete action to ease the situation and called on Thailand to resume implementing the Kuala Lumpur peace accord immediately.
