Thailand's navy recently intercepted an illegal departure attempt at the border, detaining six Chinese nationals as they tried to cross illegally into Cambodia. The military said the case was suspected to be linked to transnational criminal networks and telecommunications scam groups. It said those involved had tried to evade checks and cross into Cambodia by taking advantage of heavy New Year holiday traffic and the workload facing border officials.
The case is now under further investigation, with the relevant authorities examining whether a wider transnational criminal network is involved.
