During the New Year's Eve celebrations marking the transition from 2025 to 2026 in Kampot province, residents and visitors from near and far were seen following the good practice of bagging and properly placing their rubbish. This helped ease the burden on collection workers as the waste volume rose to nearly 90 tonnes.
Waste collection company Kampot Green said its sanitation teams collected nearly 90 tonnes of rubbish in Kampot city after last night's celebrations welcoming 2026.
Suon Sopheak, head of Kampot Green, said the sharp increase in waste on New Year's Eve prompted the company to deploy 67 workers for sweeping, collection and washing, along with seven large and small vehicles.
To keep the city clean and attractive, company teams began collecting rubbish and cleaning as soon as visitors left the gathering areas, working to tidy the locations before residents and visitors passed through in the early morning.
He added that, based on observations on the ground, both city residents and visitors from near and far had properly bagged and placed their rubbish. This helped workers load it onto vehicles for quick and efficient removal.
