Summary

The ministry reported preventing 21,818,687 cubic metres of wastewater from polluting public waters in 2025 and automatic monitoring systems installed at 54 business and factory sites.

The Environment Ministry’s spokesperson said that throughout 2025 the ministry prevented wastewater discharged by companies, factories and enterprises in Cambodia from polluting public waters and affecting residents’ lives and the environment, totalling 21,818,687 cubic metres.

Spokesperson Khvay Atitya added that the ministry monitored and inspected liquid-waste discharges from companies and factories into public waters for compliance with standards, involving approximately 200,000 cubic metres each month.

The report attributed these results to Environment Minister Dr Eang Sophalleth’s attention and drive to strengthen enforcement against pollution. Companies, enterprises and factories with pollution potential must comply with Cambodian law and install automatic equipment and data-management systems to monitor liquid-waste discharges, ensure fair competition and increase confidence in cleaner production.

The minister said the ministry paid close attention to keeping water resources clean in line with government policies and strategies, particularly the Environmental Chakra Strategy and Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership. Priority was given to preventing and reducing pollution of public waters and managing water quality sustainably to conserve aquatic biodiversity and protect public health.

At the time of reporting, 54 company, factory and enterprise sites had installed automatic equipment and data-management systems during 2025 to monitor liquid-waste discharges. Other businesses had signed contracts and were preparing to install them progressively in 2026.

Data collected by automatic monitoring equipment will be transmitted automatically to the ministry’s management system. If any technical problem occurs, the notification system will immediately alert the ministry so that teams can intervene promptly.
