Cambodia will not recognise any alteration of the Cambodia–Thailand boundary resulting from the use of force, government spokesperson Pen Bona said. His comments followed the circulation of social-media images alleging that Thai armed forces had laid barbed wire and placed containers to take Cambodian land in some disputed border areas.
“Let me reaffirm Cambodia’s position: Cambodia remains firmly committed to defending the international Cambodia–Thailand boundary inherited from the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission, respecting international law and the principle of unchanged inherited boundaries, Uti Possidetis Juris; the Franco–Siamese conventions and treaties, maps and boundary-demarcation records of the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission; and agreements and related documents previously agreed by both parties,” the spokesperson said.
Pen Bona stressed: “Cambodia does not recognise any boundary alteration resulting from the use of force. Any action contrary to the understandings in the December 27 joint statement and previous agreements is unlawful and violates the ceasefire agreements.”
