Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior said on January 4 that Thai military personnel had recently entered “New Society Village” in Pursat province, forcibly broken into local homes and taken valuables. According to the report, troops cut locks and forced doors to enter eight households, taking property including four motorcycles and two refuse-transport trailers used collectively by the village. The incident caused serious anxiety among residents.

The incident followed the ceasefire understanding between Cambodia and Thailand. Under the outcomes of the special General Border Committee meeting on December 27, 2025, both sides agreed to cease fire immediately and allow civilians to return home gradually. However, security conditions still prevented more than 280,000 Cambodians from returning to their original homes. To protect displaced people, authorities had previously divided affected areas into red, yellow and safe zones, applying different levels of access control.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement alleging that during the 21-day conflict, Thai forces unlawfully crossed the border and occupied 14 locations across four Cambodian provinces, seriously violating sovereignty. Cambodia expressed its strongest protest, said the actions violated international law, and called on Thailand to immediately stop all violations and fully honour the ceasefire and peace commitments already reached.
