Summary

Chhuor Sopanha visited ailing veteran Sa Kimsan in Kampong Speu on January 7, recalling veterans’ sacrifices and the younger generation’s responsibility to maintain ongoing care.

On January 7, 2026, marking the 47th anniversary of the January 7 Victory Day, Chhuor Sopanha, a central-level party youth member, head of the party youth organisation at the Ministry of Cults and Religion and a Damnak Reang commune councillor, visited former artillery serviceman Sa Kimsan. The veteran, who has high blood pressure, was receiving treatment at home in Pothi village, Damnak Reang commune, Kong Pisei district, Kampong Speu province.

During the visit, he conveyed greetings and good wishes to Sa Kimsan and his family from the two leaders referred to as Samdech and from Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Civil Service and head of the working group for local work in Kampong Speu. The team also brought a sum of money and a group photograph of veterans and retirees taken at an earlier event expressing gratitude to them.

He recalled that veterans had stood in the face of death so that the nation could stand behind peace. Their blood, flesh, bodies and youth were the price paid for the independence, sovereignty and peace in which everyone lives today.

He continued that visiting veterans in local communities clearly demonstrates the younger generation’s responsibility and implements the guidance of leaders at all levels that those who helped save the nation must never be forgotten. Whether they live in large or small houses, in comfort or in hardship, remembrance and care must be constant, rather than limited to occasions when events are held.

Caring about their well-being does not end with a single gift. It continuously binds the national spirit across the past, present and future, turning gratitude into action and remembrance into tangible responsibility.

For us in the younger generation, this is an important lesson: maintaining concern for veterans’ well-being carries forward the spirit of national leadership and of remembering the past, in order to protect the present and safeguard the future. By: Pai Sokhim
