Cambodian civil aviation spokesman Sinn Chanserey Vutha said on January 7, 2026, that Thai passengers were not being harassed or discriminated against. He was responding to allegations by some Thai media outlets that Cambodian authorities at Techo International Airport had harassed Thai nationals entering or leaving Cambodia.
He said Thai passengers leaving Cambodia to return to Thailand, whose travel histories were clear and recorded in the travel system, were not questioned. For Thai passengers entering Cambodia with no previous record of entry, authorities applied certain safety and security measures through questions and answers and required additional evidence and supporting documents concerning their visit to Cambodia.
The secretary of state added that Cambodian authorities were not questioning foreign nationals other than Thais who entered or left Cambodia via Thailand.
The Cambodian embassy in France had recently said that some European travellers heading to Cambodia had encountered serious problems while transiting at Bangkok’s airport in Thailand. These included questioning lasting dozens of hours, excessive demands for proof of financial resources, checks of hotel reservations in Cambodia, discrimination, an atmosphere of anxiety and unreasonable suspicion. In some cases, passengers also found their luggage missing on arrival in Phnom Penh.
The embassy added that, as a precaution, travellers going to Cambodia should avoid transiting through Thailand and using Thai airlines.
