Summary

A conservation team’s video shows about 10 banteng of different sizes crossing a road in Preah Vihear’s Phnom Tnaot–Phnom Pok sanctuary. Ben Davis said around 70–100 were being conserved in the area.

(Preah Vihear) A herd of about 10 banteng, both small and large, ran across a road while conservation personnel were patrolling by motorcycle, according to video from the conservation team in Phnom Tnaot–Phnom Pok Wildlife Sanctuary.

According to earlier information from Ben Davis, who was granted responsibility for conservation management in Phnom Tnaot–Phnom Pok Wildlife Sanctuary, between 70 and 100 banteng in the area were being conserved.

Banteng are classified as Critically Endangered in the 2024 IUCN Red List. The report states that Cambodia has the largest number, estimated at between 1,500 and 4,000.

Everyone is therefore urged to help protect and conserve banteng, part of our country’s natural heritage.
