Summary

Sihanoukville’s mayor urged tuk-tuk drivers on January 12 to stop parking on granite sidewalks, while residents called for orderly car, motorcycle and PassApp parking outside Phsar Leu market.

Sihanoukville Mayor Sar Kakada has asked all tuk-tuk drivers to stop parking on granite-paved sidewalks. Residents, meanwhile, are asking the city authorities to restore order outside Phsar Leu market, saying cars, motorcycles and PassApp tuk-tuks fill the road, making travel difficult and causing traffic congestion.

Residents made the requests after the mayor posted on Facebook on January 12, 2026: “Could all tuk-tuk drivers stop parking on the granite sidewalks? Stopping parking on the granite helps protect public property and improve the city’s appearance!”

After the post, a Sihanoukville resident using the Facebook account name Sok Lin commented: “As a resident of Sihanoukville province, I ask the relevant authorities to help manage and organise parking for cars, motorcycles and especially PassApp tuk-tuks outside Phsar Leu market. Many drivers leave their vehicles there to call for customers and occupy the road. It is worst in the evening, when parking takes up half the road, at the yellow line.”

Another resident commented: “We ask PassApp drivers to help and understand traffic order, behaving ethically and with dignity!” A further commenter asked: “Is it only the tuk-tuks that are at fault? What about the ‘keu-keu’ cars?” The mayor replied that there were cars too, but only a few, and that some cars which slipped in to park had already been fined.
