Sihanoukville Governor Mang Sineth, who also chairs the provincial administration’s unified command committee, has introduced strict measures to strengthen security and safety for residents, tourists and investment. He made the remarks at a meeting to advance security, safety and public-order work, attended by relevant provincial officials. The meeting focused on managing collective accommodation and security at communal residential locations, updating accommodation registers and preventing various offences.
On gambling and drugs, the governor called for sustained action “like a steady drizzle” against illegal online gambling outside casino areas, delinquent gangs and drugs. He made clear that civil servants must absolutely not be involved with drugs.
On tourism and investment safety, he said security is an important factor in attracting investors and visitors. The province currently has 530 security cameras installed and plans to add more than 200 along major roads.
On traffic and fire safety, education on both land and water traffic rules should be promoted, particularly the use of life jackets by visitors travelling to the islands, alongside greater vigilance against fires.
Support should continue for approximately more than 500 war-displaced families, who should also be encouraged to take up employment opportunities in Sihanoukville, where thousands of positions currently need workers.
The chair of the provincial administration’s unified command committee stressed the need to strengthen security and safety in Sihanoukville for residents, tourists and investment.
The governor also praised the armed forces’ past work against unlawful confinement for extortion and human trafficking, describing the crackdown results as nearly 100 percent, and instructed them to further improve implementation of the Royal Government’s “Safe Village, Commune and Sangkat” policy.
