Summary

Pailin Governor Ban Sreymom rejected a post alleging that 200–300 containers of Thai goods enter daily through the province, and urged anyone with evidence to report it.

Pailin has only one international border crossing, Prum, and no informal crossings, and no Thai goods are flowing into Cambodia through the province. Pailin Governor Ban Sreymom made this statement on January 13, 2026, after a Facebook account called “Avatar S” posted that an average of 200–300 containers of Thai goods entered through Pailin each day before continuing through a distribution network “like blood vessels”.

After the post was published and shared, Ban Sreymom said it was false information and advised the public, especially people in the province, to carefully check the poster’s page before believing any information.

Nevertheless, the governor also appealed: “If the page owner or people at home or abroad have evidence of these offences, please provide the information to me. Pure gold never fears fire. We are professional officials responsible here, complying with laws and orders, and responsibly supporting and trusting the leadership and decisions of our head of government, sharing the people’s joys and hardships in every circumstance.” She stressed that people should not maliciously create false information.

The report recalls that on June 23, 2025, the Thai military unilaterally closed all border crossings with Cambodia, affecting seven Cambodian provinces, and Cambodia subsequently announced that it would close the crossings in response. Cambodia also halted imports of vegetables, fruit, fuel and internet services from Thailand, and notably announced an end to screenings of Thai television dramas, in response to Thailand’s unilateral border closure and threats. After those events, Cambodians across almost the entire country also announced a boycott of Thai goods and products.
