To prevent all forms of natural-resource offences in the Stung Treng section of Veun Sai–Siem Pang National Park, a patrol team reached Ou Kasieb and encountered five rare white-shouldered ibises living undisturbed. The species is listed as threatened with extinction on the IUCN Red List.
This was reported by Sreng Chea Heng, director of the Stung Treng provincial Environment Department, who led a joint team of relevant agencies on patrols in the province from January 12 to 13, 2026.
The team then continued to Ou Veng and the foot of Yak Heub Mountain, using an unmanned aircraft, or drone, to inspect the surrounding forest cover. The inspection found nothing noteworthy in the forest’s condition at those locations.
The patrol subsequently reached Ou Kngok and took legal measures in connection with unauthorised forest clearing by unidentified people at one site covering nearly one hectare. The team collected data and continued investigating to identify the offenders and prepare a case for submission to the prosecutor attached to the provincial Court of First Instance for action under legal procedures.
