The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has renewed its appeal to all parties concerned to stop continuing imports, distribution, installation, use and sales advertising of telecommunications equipment or devices using radio frequencies in the Cambodian market. If those concerned ignore the guidance and continue these activities, the ministry will take strict measures without making exceptions for anyone involved.
In a notice dated January 14, the ministry said it had observed the import, distribution, installation, use and sales advertising of telecommunications equipment or radio-frequency devices in Cambodia without import authorisation from the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC).
Under the Telecommunications Law, the ministry said, telecommunications equipment or devices using radio frequencies must be imported and distributed by persons with recognised qualifications for those activities and must have the certification required by law. This is intended to ensure that the equipment does not pose risks to users or adversely affect telecommunications service quality, and especially to prevent its use in offences affecting public order and national security. The ministry listed equipment whose import, distribution and sale it has prohibited: signal boosters or repeaters of all types (Booster/Repeater), fake mobile base stations (Fake Base Transceiver Station—Fake BTS), unmanned aircraft (Drone), and service-disruption devices (Jammer).
