Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, said China remained Cambodia’s largest source of investment capital.
He made the remarks in a special interview with China News Service (CNS), a major Chinese state news agency, on January 16, 2026. The interview reflected on Cambodia’s socioeconomic progress, its investment environment and the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the interview, the deputy prime minister expressed his deepest gratitude on behalf of Cambodia’s government and people to the Chinese government and people, especially President Xi Jinping for launching the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He said the initiative had played an indispensable role in advancing Cambodia’s socioeconomic development through major physical infrastructure projects serving as vital economic arteries.
He stressed that Cambodia welcomed lawful investment from every country without discrimination and called on Chinese investors to consider increasing their investments in Cambodia, given its central position in the region and the many incentives available under the new Investment Law.
The deputy prime minister also reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm support for the “One China policy.”
