Summary

Peng Ponea led a January 17 inspection of damaged bridges on National Road 55 and its old route in Pursat; a temporary diversion had been arranged, and he ordered Bailey-bridge and approach-road repairs.

Public Works and Transport Minister Peng Ponea led an inter-ministerial delegation comprising his ministry, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and local authorities to inspect and assess damage to Victory Bridge, also called Me Tuek Bridge, on National Road 55 and the Me Tuek Bailey Bridge on the old National Road 55 route in Thmor Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat. The report attributed the damage to earlier Thai military bombing.

The inspection took place on the afternoon of January 17,2026 after visits and greetings to soldiers and officials of the National Road 5 rehabilitation and upgrading project, Sisophon–Poipet section, at Cambodia–Japan Friendship Mongkol Borey Referral Hospital in Banteay Meanchey.

The ministry had arranged a temporary diversion to facilitate residents’ daily travel. The minister instructed Pursat’s Public Works and Transport Department to repair and further strengthen the Me Tuek Bailey Bridge and make its approach roads firm so all types of traffic could cross safely again.
