On January 18, Phnom Penh’s administration began implementing infrastructure and pavement improvements and drainage rehabilitation around Daeum Kor Market. After the deadline expired, trading on pavements and roads around the market was no longer permitted.
The administration said the clearance aimed to improve infrastructure appearance and public order. From January 18,2026, it would no longer allow disorderly trading encroaching on pavements or public roads along Monireth and Mao Tse Toung boulevards, around Daeum Kor Market and in related surrounding areas.
Administration spokesperson Ms Dao Samphos said authorities had already met and notified vendors that business on pavements and roads around the market would no longer be permitted from January 18.
The prohibition applied only to vendors encroaching on the public road reserve around Daeum Kor Market, including Monireth and Mao Tse Toung boulevards and related areas in Boeung Keng Kang and Tuol Kork districts. Vendors with proper stalls and trading spaces inside the market were unaffected and could operate normally.
The administration would no longer permit selling on pavements or public roads in the Daeum Kor Market area to improve the appearance of infrastructure and public order in the city. By Chinta Titi.
