Summary

APSARA said on January 22 that restoration of the north library on Angkor Wat’s second level was about 60 percent complete. Work began in November 2025 and was scheduled to finish in February 2026.

Specialists from APSARA National Authority’s Department of Monument Conservation and Archaeology planned four months of work to restore and strengthen the damaged north library on Angkor Wat’s second level, the authority said on its official Facebook page on January 22, 2026.

Mao Sokny, a technical officer in the department, said the library’s structure was damaged in several places: the laterite foundation had deteriorated and some stones had shifted from their original positions, particularly roof stones.

He said the work included adding some new stones where stones were missing from the platform to restore its stability, moving displaced roof stones back to their original positions and sealing with mortar to prevent further water infiltration into the foundation. Meanwhile, the stone-conservation team was using restoration techniques to strengthen deteriorated stonework, including columns, walls, doorframes and some Apsara figures.

Restoration of the north library on Angkor Wat’s second level was about 60 percent complete. It began in November 2025 and was scheduled to finish in February 2026.
