Summary

At the third annual coordination meeting on January 22, the minister urged partners to cooperate on sustainable, climate-resilient water security in border provinces.

Water Resources and Meteorology Minister Thao Chetha urged development partners to continue cooperating to restore sustainable, climate-resilient water security in border provinces, particularly by building additional reservoirs and improving systems to protect livelihoods, maintain development momentum and ensure reliable water supplies for communities and productive sectors.

He made the appeal at the third annual coordination meeting between the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and development partners on January 22 in the ministry’s Rumduol meeting hall.

The minister said the meeting marked a shift from expanding partnerships towards defining leadership approaches, improving cooperation effectiveness, strengthening coordination and aligning direction in water resources and meteorology under the Pentagonal Strategy and Cambodia’s national visions for 2030 and 2050.

He stressed that climate change, floods and droughts, together with growing water demand, called for integrated water governance, adaptation and better coordination.

Two previous coordination meetings had been held between the ministry and development partners. The first established a clearly structured platform for transparency and cooperation. The second, in 2024, reaffirmed water as a national development priority under Phase One of the Pentagonal Strategy and promoted cooperation on policy, technology and climate resilience.
