Summary

The EAC urged licensed electricity providers to assess charging-station investment, while EDC-funded facilities in all 25 capitals and provinces are due to enter service soon.

The Electricity Authority of Cambodia (EAC) recently urged electricity-supply service licence holders nationwide to assess the feasibility of investing in electric-vehicle charging stations within their service areas. It also encouraged them to use electric vehicles, particularly in electricity-related operations.

The EAC said the move aimed to develop Cambodia’s EV-charging infrastructure and accelerate EV adoption nationwide. The appeal had been formally sent to enterprises and institutions providing electricity services, encouraging charging projects alongside existing supply networks in line with the country’s energy-transition direction.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy had issued Notice No. 0389 on February 20, 2025, setting principles and procedures for EV-charging services. These included faster deployment, safe service, reasonable fees and stable, efficient battery charging. Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) has invested in charging stations across all 25 capitals and provinces, with the facilities expected to enter service progressively in the near future.
