Following social-media claims that Cambodia’s government had sold an island in Preah Sihanouk and Koh Ki in Kampot to private companies, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) issued a January 28 release rejecting the claims as false.
The CDC explained that both islands are state private property which the government will lease to private companies for tourism development in accordance with policies and laws in force.
It added that the government had not sold these islands to private companies and had never sold any island in Cambodian waters to a private company.
