A Mekong bridge linking Koh Norea in Phnom Penh with the Mekong Quay satellite city in Arey Ksat, Kandal province, has reached the study stage. Public Works and Transport Minister Peng Ponea, ministry leaders, representatives of the Phnom Penh and Kandal administrations, OCIC, TP Moral Group and other relevant parties took part in the study and assessment on January 28.
The bridge is one component of the approximately 210-hectare Mekong Quay satellite-city project along the Mekong, opposite Chaktomuk. The project will be organised into major components including modern commercial buildings, a shopping mall, education centres, international-standard hotels, and tourism and cultural centres.
At the groundbreaking for Mekong Quay city on December 17, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet said the major project was a sound investment demonstrating the gradual recovery of Cambodia's property sector.
He said it would help fulfil people's aspirations and promote national economic growth by invigorating property, investment, trade and hospitality, as well as promoting Cambodian culture and tourism. After construction, he expected the project to bring development to the whole area east of the Mekong.
He said: “I hope the potential of these connections will bring development to the area east of the Mekong, not only Arey Ksat city or the Mekong Quay satellite city. It will develop and become interconnected, eventually becoming an industrial and modern area like the west of Phnom Penh.” By: Chinda Titi.
