Summary

At Kampot's January 29 annual conference, Mao Thonin called for sustained online-scam prevention by authorities and enforcement agencies, with particular cooperation from owners of accommodation premises.

Kampot Governor Mao Thonin said maintaining security and public order and fighting crime were important to improving residents' peaceful lives in the province. Relevant authorities and specialist enforcement bodies should continue attentive, sustained work like steady gentle rain.

He added that technology-enabled fraud had become a shared concern of the Cambodian government and international community. Although he said no such cases had yet occurred in Kampot, he instructed authorities, forces, specialist agencies and all residents to cooperate to prevent the problem from emerging in the province.

He spoke at the opening of Kampot administration's conference reviewing 2025 results and setting 2026 directions at Bokor Conference Hall on January 29, 2026. He again referred to the absence of such online-scam cases in the province and called on law-enforcement officials to prepare and plan effective, timely preventive measures in advance, as the government had adopted very firm measures against offenders and others involved in technology-enabled fraud.

The governor also instructed all types of armed forces, authorities at every level, relevant units and all law-enforcement officials to implement strict prevention and suppression measures against online scams. He particularly appealed to owners of accommodation-service premises to cooperate actively with authorities and specialist agencies to prevent these crimes effectively in Kampot.
