A delegation from the Korean business association in Cambodia, KOCHAM, expressed strong interest in the Cambodian market because of the country's socioeconomic development in recent years.
The delegation, led by Sungsoo Kim, chief executive officer of the microfinance institution Prime MFI, expressed this interest at a January 29 working meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Council for the Development of Cambodia First Vice Chairman Sun Chanthol to strengthen economic ties and improve the investment climate.
According to Sun Chanthol's Facebook page, the meeting reflected strong economic relations between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea and put forward new mechanisms to address challenges and seize investment opportunities.
The deputy prime minister emphasised the importance of the Cambodia–Korea Public–Private Dialogue mechanism as an effective platform for hearing and resolving investors' challenges. He encouraged KOCHAM and all Korean companies to report problems and obstacles through it so the government could facilitate timely responses.
As the government's one-stop investment facilitation body, the CDC reiterated its commitment to facilitating foreign-investment registration and project implementation. Cambodia wanted more Korean investors and urged KOCHAM to help identify promising, high-quality investment projects suitable for major Korean companies.
The two sides also discussed activities to build confidence and expand business networks, including preparations for an Investment Roadshow in Korea in the second quarter of 2026. KOCHAM was expected to participate actively to attract more new Korean investors to Cambodia.
They also raised an initiative for a monthly ‘Working Breakfast’ with all chambers of commerce in Cambodia to strengthen networks and exchange economic information.
Delegation leader Sungsoo Kim meanwhile told the deputy prime minister that Korean investors were strongly interested in Cambodia's market because of its socioeconomic development in recent years.
He added that KOCHAM would act as an important bridge, bringing Korean business concerns and requests into formal discussion mechanisms to contribute to further Cambodian economic growth.
The meeting was not only about strengthening friendship, but also a new step towards making Cambodia a leading investment destination for Korean companies through close CDC facilitation.
