On the morning of February 9, Deputy Prime Minister and CDC First Vice-Chairman Sun Chanthol and Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin jointly chaired the first Cambodia–China public–private dialogue. Representatives of about 80 Chinese enterprises, members of the Chinese chamber of commerce in Cambodia and heads of relevant ministries and institutions attended, launching a regular, direct government–business communication platform.

Sun Chanthol said the dialogue reflected the government’s strong attention to Chinese enterprises and aimed to hear their operational and investment difficulties directly and prompt workable solutions from relevant bodies. The mechanism would meet every six months to follow up progress. He added that China was Cambodia’s largest source of investment and trading partner and that Chinese companies played a key role in economic growth and industrial development.

Wang Wenbin welcomed the jointly established mechanism, saying it would systematically improve the investment and business environment and strengthen Chinese enterprises’ confidence in long-term operations. He said Chinese investment had created more than one million jobs. The meeting discussed taxation, customs, logistics, energy, agriculture and labour. Cambodia said it would strengthen inter-agency cooperation, respond to business concerns and build a more stable, transparent and predictable investment environment to advance bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
