Sun Chanthol, first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin led the first Cambodia–China public–private dialogue on February 9 to address challenges and improve Cambodia’s investment and trading environment. Representatives of 80 Chinese companies from the Chinese chamber-of-commerce association in Cambodia and leaders representing inter-ministerial bodies that are CDC members attended.
The deputy prime minister said the dialogue demonstrated the Cambodian government’s strong attention to Chinese investors already operating in Cambodia. It gave them an opportunity to raise challenges and seek appropriate solutions, strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation and building confidence within the Chinese business community.
He said the dialogue would be held every six months to monitor efforts to resolve problems, noting that China was Cambodia’s largest investor and trading partner.
The ambassador welcomed cooperation in organising the dialogue to jointly examine and discuss improvements to Cambodia’s investment and business environment, strengthening and expanding the presence of Chinese enterprises investing in the country. He said the dialogue mattered because it could help investors overcome obstacles, while Chinese investment had created more than one million jobs and contributed significantly to sustainable economic growth and expanded trade with China and other countries.
