On the morning of February 10, 2026, Water Resources and Meteorology Minister Thor Chetha led ministry technicians, together with Kampong Cham Governor Un Chanda and local authorities, to inspect a collapsed stretch of Mekong riverbank in Village 15, Kampong Cham sangkat, Kampong Cham city and province.
During the site inspection, the minister directed temporary intervention using geotextile sandbags to prevent further collapse of the Mekong bank.
The collapse occurred on the night of January 30, 2026. The bank had been constructed by the Kampong Cham provincial administration in 2012.
The damage comprised: (1) an upper tiled section 70 metres long and 1.1 metres wide, with collapse heights ranging from 0.3 to 1.6 metres; and (2) a lower concrete section 70 metres long and 32 metres wide, including an at-risk section 35 metres long with heights from 0.1 to 0.3 metres.
