Summary

The province called for public education, patrols, parental supervision and precautions with offerings, candles, incense and home security before travelling.

Banteay Meanchey Governor Ou Ratry issued guidance prohibiting firecrackers and all types of explosives during Chinese and Vietnamese New Year in 2026, to avoid adverse incidents and dangers that could occur unexpectedly.

He instructed municipal and district administrations, department and unit heads, and relevant armed-forces commanders to inspect, prevent violations and remind residents throughout the province of the following requirements:

1. Bringing explosives or firecrackers for sale at stalls and shops without permission from the relevant authorities and provincial administration is strictly prohibited. 2. Municipal and district authorities and relevant departments and units must inform and educate local people so everyone understands and follows the guidance. 3. Guardians must firmly prevent children from buying or setting off firecrackers for amusement. 4. Take care during offerings, thoroughly extinguish candles and incense before travelling far away, and securely close the home. 5. Provincial police and military-police commands must strictly arrange patrols and inspections and take lawful action against violations from the date they receive the guidance.

The governor expressed confidence that officials, authorities at all levels, armed forces and residents would act responsibly and with great caution to implement the guidance effectively and achieve good results. By: Pai Sokhim.
