Dao Samphos said that, although the work had not been widely publicised, teams from all 14 district administrations and the Phnom Penh administration's Health Department were busy carrying out routine mosquito-control spraying every evening in villages, communities, schools, hospitals, pagodas and other local areas, with work continuing throughout the capital.
The Phnom Penh administration called on residents to help eliminate tiger mosquito habitats within a radius of about 150 metres around their homes to contribute to preventing dengue transmission.
Dao Samphos, deputy director and spokesperson of the Phnom Penh administration, said there had been comments in recent days about increasing mosquito numbers in communities. On behalf of the administration, she explained that, although no large campaign launch or public publicity event had been held this year as in previous years, Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng, district and sangkat administrations and specialist departments had never neglected work to protect and maintain local residents' wellbeing.
She added that public wellbeing, public order, crime suppression, public security and other core responsibilities were daily duties for local authorities, regardless of day or night.
She appealed: “No tiger mosquito habitats, no dengue transmission. Our children will avoid dengue if we work together to remove tiger mosquito habitats from our communities.”
