Phnom Penh: Cooperation between Cambodia and the People's Republic of China in mine action continued to strengthen as both sides committed to reducing the dangers posed by mines and explosive remnants of war and improving local people's livelihoods.

On February 11, 2026, Senior Minister Ly Thuch, first vice-president of Cambodia's mine-action authority, led a delegation from the authority to the residence of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia to offer greetings for the forthcoming traditional Chinese New Year.

On behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet, who is also chairman of the mine-action authority, Ly Thuch outlined Cambodia's achievements in mine action and expressed deep thanks to the Chinese government and people for their ongoing support for mine clearance, technical expertise, capacity building, explosive-ordnance risk education and assistance to victims.

He said China's support addressed the actual needs of people in affected areas and contributed significantly to reducing dangers and expanding opportunities for socioeconomic development. In particular, China had provided emergency assistance for clearing explosive ordnance left by the Cambodia–Thailand conflict and humanitarian assistance for people displaced by fighting.

In response, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin congratulated Cambodia on its mine-action achievements and confirmed that the Chinese government would continue to support the sector, regarding it as an important priority within Cambodia–China cooperation.

The ambassador also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the mine-action authority and the Chinese Embassy and plans to organise a joint visit later in 2026 to inspect clearance activities under projects supported by the People's Republic of China.

China's continued support for mine action was regarded as an important contribution to safety, peace and sustainable development in Cambodia as the country worked towards its goal of being free of mines and explosive remnants of war. By: KPS99TV
