Thailand’s Immigration Bureau recently raided a hotel in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district and arrested 17 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in grey-area activities. Acting on leads about cross-border relocation, officers noticed an unusual concentration of the people staying at the hotel and quickly made the arrests.
Police said some people previously engaged in grey-area activities in Cambodia were trying to move to Thailand or travel through third countries to continue operating under pressure from multinational crackdowns. Their movements were being closely monitored, and the report viewed the arrests as part of regionally coordinated enforcement.
Preliminary police inquiries indicated that those involved entered Thailand illegally through informal border crossings in Sa Kaeo province. Police have opened an investigation into “foreigners entering and remaining in Thailand without permission” and are tracing the smuggling networks and organisational links behind the crossings.
