Summary

The appeal encouraged care for parents, guardians, elders, teachers and friends while preserving women’s dignity, cultural traditions, equity and inclusion.

In an appeal, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs described Valentine’s Day as an international event rather than a traditional Khmer national festival, saying it should be used to share love with parents, guardians, family, elders, teachers and friends, among others.

The ministry praised and thanked parents, guardians, elders, teachers and especially young people for their past and continuing contributions to social morality, women’s worth, and Khmer culture, traditions and customs during previous February 14 observances.

It called on parents, guardians, elders, teachers, young people, competent authorities and stakeholders at every level to continue publicising, educating, explaining, advising and reminding relatives, children and friends to consider what they should and should not do for themselves and their families. It urged firm preservation of culture, traditions and customs, gratitude, worthy Khmer successors, and stronger citizenship in a civilised society marked by morality, equity and inclusion.

The ministry expressed confidence that everyone would help spread the message towards eliminating negative social activities and preserving Khmer honour, dignity, culture and good traditions and customs for the long term.

- Love      arises among everyone through mutual respect and appreciation.
- Maintaining,      protecting and promoting social morality, the worth of women and Khmer families      are responsibilities shared by us all.
