A celebration of the traditional Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse 2026, took place at the Cambodia–China Friendship Association in Phnom Penh on February 16. Ek Sam Ol said the gathering celebrated an important Chinese cultural festival and also reflected deep friendship and people-to-people connections.
He said the top leaders had elevated bilateral relations to an all-weather community with a shared future in the new era, and that the evening further highlighted connections between the two peoples. He described it as a valuable platform for cultural exchange, mutual understanding and closer friendship between the association and Cambodia–China Friendship Radio.
Participants also watched a live artistic and technological performance on screen. The report highlighted China Media Group’s use of 8K plus AI and communication in 85 languages, linking the New Year broadcast tradition to 1983. Dumpling-making and other recreational activities added to the festive atmosphere.
Chea Monyrith, president of the association of researchers on Cambodia–China progress, said that after UNESCO inscribed the Spring Festival on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 4, 2024, the nearly 4,000-year-old festival had gained greater global reach and contributed to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Cambodia–China Friendship Radio representative Zhang Yanping said that beyond the joy and New Year hopes, participants had committed to continuing joint work for a growing and lasting all-weather Cambodia–China community with a shared future in the new era.
