Teachers and disciplinary practices remained the subject of public debate, particularly on social media, with both supportive and critical views. The article considered practices such as striking a pupil’s head with a book inappropriate and contrary to rules set by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
Some critics used harsh language, saying teachers were getting worse or questioning why old-fashioned attitudes and past disciplinary habits were still being applied to today’s pupils.
In response to the continuing debate, an unnamed teacher asked whether teachers were always considered wrong and expected to endure criticism and insults. What should they do when pupils disregard discipline? If pupils do not study, take notes or listen, make noise and ignore rules, how do they regard teachers’ explanations and guidance—as jokes or words that simply pass them by?
The teacher added that good pupils and citizens should be disciplined, respect teachers, elders and parents, and study hard for themselves, their families and society. By: Lay Kol.
