On February 22, the Cambodian government lodged a formal protest over what it described as an unauthorised entry and law-enforcement operation by the Thai navy in Cambodian waters. Cambodia said the operation occurred within its maritime area without its permission.
According to the notice, the Royal Thai Navy detained three Cambodian fishermen and seized their fishing boat that day in waters about 7.2 nautical miles from the island rendered as Koh Yor in Koh Kong province.
Cambodia said the action violated its sovereignty and maritime rights and international-law principles. It demanded the immediate release of the detained people and return of the boat, an end to unauthorised enforcement in waters it identifies as Cambodian, and measures to prevent similar incidents.
