On February 22, under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha, Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration worked with the Chinese Embassy to repatriate 494 Chinese nationals, including 28 women, suspected of involvement in telecom and online fraud.

According to the report, the group was mainly linked to scam cases in the Sihanoukville area and departed safely on a charter flight from Techo International Airport after the operation. The report describes the large operation as having followed legal procedures.

The Cambodian government said the action demonstrated its determination to combat online scams. It said organisers behind the operations would face criminal accountability under the law, while victims would receive necessary assistance and protection to safeguard public order and safety.
