Cambodia’s National Committee for Counter Trafficking planned to hold an anti-trafficking day commemorative event on the afternoon of February 25 at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh, under the theme “Together for a Cambodia Free of Human Trafficking and Online Scams.” Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha, the committee chair, was to preside on behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
About 3,000 participants were expected, including senior monks and religious representatives, senators and lawmakers, government and local officials, armed forces representatives, foreign diplomats, international organisations, civil society, students and private-sector representatives.
Officials said the event aimed to unite domestic and international efforts to prevent and combat human trafficking, online scams and related crimes and protect the lawful rights of Cambodian and foreign residents. The report interprets it as a signal of the seventh government’s continuing efforts against technology-related crime and for public security and stability.
