Summary

Police reported two truck-driver arrests and two vehicles seized in Bangkok. The suspects reportedly described payments of 30,000 baht each.

On February 23, Thai police arrested two truck drivers suspected of drug transport around Bang Waek Road in Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen district. They seized 448 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine hidden in cat- and dog-food bags and two trucks. Police described it as a major recent drug-transport case.

According to the report, the suspects said during questioning that this was their second drug shipment and each was paid 30,000 baht, approximately US$966. Normally working in taxi and car-rental businesses, they said an employer directed them to collect goods at designated border locations and transport them to Bangkok and southern areas. On the previous trip, they had delivered drugs to Pathum Thani for distribution.

The case was transferred to anti-drug authorities for further proceedings. Police were expanding the investigation to trace organisers and the wider network and dismantle the interregional supply chain.
