Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry expressed concern on February 28 and urged all parties involved in the armed conflict in the Middle East to exercise maximum restraint. The ministry issued its appeal to avoid further deterioration and spread of the already alarming regional tensions.
According to the ministry, Cambodia was following the situation in the Middle East with deep concern. It called on all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation that would harm civilian lives and peace.
The report noted that the Middle East conflict escalated again after the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28. The United States had previously assembled a large naval force in the region to pressure Iran into an agreement on its nuclear programme. The conflict prompted Iranian retaliation against Israel and US military bases in several countries in the region.
