Following her March 2 meeting with Cambodia’s Acting Head of State Hun Sen, Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, outlined plans to visit displaced Cambodians along the border during her official visit. Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith reported the plans after the meeting. The Cambodian account describes the residents as affected by Thai military aggression.
The Senate spokesperson said that, amid the complex global situation, the secretary-general recognised the challenges facing the world and the need for Francophonie member countries to consider them.
Regarding Cambodia, she had also followed the Cambodia–Thailand border issue and told Hun Sen that she would take the opportunity during her visit to meet displaced residents along the border.
Hun Sen welcomed her intention. He said her visit to Cambodia, particularly her planned meeting with conflict-displaced people, clearly showed her support for peace and opposition to war.
