Summary

Spokesperson Sun Mesa reported on a second inspection on March 2, saying 18 of 20 workers who fainted had returned to work and two had requested leave. A funeral benefit had been paid, while survivor-benefit inquiries continued.

Labour and Vocational Training Ministry spokesperson Sun Mesa said a second inspection by specialists on March 2, 2026, found that the fainting and death incidents in Kandal province were not caused by improper implementation of occupational safety and health conditions.

Sun Mesa said: “After inspecting working conditions and occupational safety and health conditions, particularly the working environment, heat, lighting, dust and ventilation, labour inspectors found that occupational safety and health conditions at the workplace were not the cause of the workers fainting.”

According to Sun Mesa, workers had resumed work normally. Of the 20 workers who fainted, 18 had returned to work, while two had requested leave. Separately, the deceased worker’s family had received a statutory funeral benefit of 10 million riel.

On March 2, 2026, specialists from the ministry’s National Social Security Fund were arranging a survivor-benefit inquiry to provide benefits to the family in accordance with the law, Sun Mesa said.

He added: “With the minister’s attention, the specialists carried out an immediate inspection on February 27, and we returned today to clarify what happened. Workers have now resumed work normally, and 18 of the 20 who fainted have returned. Nevertheless, we will continue monitoring closely to prevent any further incidents.”

The report notes that after workers fainted at the Cambo Unisol factory in Khsach Kandal district, Kandal province, on February 27, 2026, ministry specialists promptly inspected working and occupational safety and health conditions, particularly the environment, heat, lighting, dust and ventilation, to safeguard workers.
