Banteay Meanchey: Military attachés accredited to Cambodia from 12 countries visited 1,632 displaced Cambodian families, approximately 5,000 people, temporarily staying at Wat Kandaol camp in Thma Puok district. They examined living conditions among residents who were still unable to return home.
Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence coordinated the visit on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 4, 2026, after the delegation had visited Prey Chan village and the Boeng Trakuon border-crossing area.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said residents could not return because Thai military forces had illegally occupied Cambodian territory in some areas, laying barbed wire, installing containers and destroying homes.
She said Cambodia continued to strictly respect the ceasefire, the December 27, 2025 joint declaration and related agreements in a spirit of peace and respect for international law. She reiterated Cambodia’s position on defending the international border based on international law, uti possidetis juris, Franco-Siamese conventions and treaties, maps, boundary-demarcation records of the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission and other documents previously agreed by both sides. Cambodia rejected any border changes resulting from force.
Following the visits, the foreign military attachés expressed hope for the early restoration of peace, stability and normal relations between Cambodia and Thailand so displaced people could safely return home and resume normal lives. By: KPS99TV.
