Battambang: Governor Sok Lou met Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin for a courtesy call and working discussion on strengthening ties, promoting economic, investment and agricultural cooperation, and exploring the province’s development potential.
At the meeting on the morning of March 6, 2026, Sok Lou outlined Battambang’s geography and key strengths, describing it as one of Cambodia’s major agricultural areas. He highlighted favourable conditions in agriculture, tourism, services and irrigation as important factors in attracting investors.
The governor said that despite abundant agricultural production, investment in processing and packaging farm products remained limited. He asked China to help mobilise Chinese investment in local processing and consider the feasibility of establishing a Chinese special economic zone in Battambang, to stimulate growth and create local jobs.
Sok Lou also proposed exploring a sister-province or sister-city relationship between Battambang and a Chinese province or city to strengthen ties and deepen cooperation.
Wang Wenbin praised the province’s potential, particularly in rice and other farm products. He said China was focusing on the Cambodia–China “Fish and Rice Corridor” to advance agricultural cooperation and expand the market for Cambodian agricultural exports to China.
The ambassador said the embassy would continue encouraging the Chinese chamber of commerce in Cambodia to strengthen cooperation with the Battambang administration and promote the province’s potential to Chinese investors. China would also support partnerships between Chinese provinces or cities and Battambang to further bilateral ties and cooperation.
