Summary

Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Governor Va Thorn inspected preparations on March 7, with exhibitions, cultural performances and sports planned.

Kratie is preparing to host the tenth River Festival in 2026, showcasing natural tourism, culture and life along the Mekong as resources for tourism and local economic development.

On March 7, 2026, Tourism Minister Huot Hak, who chairs the interministerial organising commission, and Kratie Governor Va Thorn led an inspection of preparations along the city’s riverfront. The festival is scheduled for March 27–29 under the theme “Green River, Abundant Cultural and Natural Heritage”.

The minister said Cambodian and international visitors would be able to enjoy local-product exhibitions, traditional cultural performances, sports and other entertainment, introducing Kratie’s landscapes and tourism potential more widely.

He described the River Festival as an important Cambodian tourism event that promotes riverine provinces and supports government policy for sustainable and responsible riverside development.

The festival also has social and economic benefits, including:

  • Demonstrating solidarity and cooperation through a coordinated approach in which all stakeholders work as one system.

  • Encouraging local development and economic growth.

  • Promoting green development focused on conserving cultural, natural and environmental resources.

  • Increasing public awareness and education.

  • Promoting tourism through major events.

The River Festival has become a platform linking riverside communities with tourism development and natural-resource conservation. Kratie’s Mekong scenery and riverside livelihoods are regarded as distinctive assets for nature-based tourism.
